Boy left brain damaged to receive multimillion pound compensation
A seven-year-old boy who suffered severe brain damage at birth is to receive a multimillion-pound compensation package.
The boy was deprived of oxygen for 20 minutes before he was born by Caesarian at East Surrey Hospital in March 2009. His family insutrcuted a specalist firm of maternity negligence solicitors who claimed that he should have been delivered earlier and Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust admitted liability in 2011.
The judge approved an agreed settlement involving a lump sum of £2.5 million plus annual payments starting at £100,000 a year and rising to £245,000.
Cases of maternity negligence can be extremely traumatic for the families involved. Often in these types of cases there are admissions that if something was done differently than the injuries could have been prevented. This is difficult for families to hear, at R James Hutcheon Solicitors we aim to support families through these traumatic times and fight for the compensation they deserve. Compensation packages help with the financial burden of treating and caring for an injured loved one.
